Jodi Arias: ‘Do you want it to be like Tot Mom’?

“The Dan and Nancy Show” took a nasty turn Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” The topic was tone, and HLN’s Nancy Grace is basically tone-deaf, which makes for fascinating television.

Grace said that prosecutor Juan Martinez couldn’t be too harsh on murder defendant Jodi Arias. “It’s going to take quite a lot to rip that mask off Jodi Arias and show the killer underneath,” Grace said.

ABC’s Dan Abrams repeated his view that the prosecutor was running the risk of painting Arias as the victim.

Grace, however, maintained that the prosecutor had to take his one swing in cross examining Arias. The HLN host brought up Casey Anthony to illustrate the point.

“Do you want it to be like Tot Mom?” Grace said. ”Where they had evidence and they held it back and they didn’t want to be too harsh? They didn’t use all the ammo they had and look what happened.” (Anthony was acquitted of murder in her daughter’s death.) “You’ve gotta go all the way, all out, blow it out,” Grace added.

Abrams countered that the issue was tone and that the prosecutor didn’t need to be seen arguing with Arias.

That ignited an argument on “GMA.” Grace, who comes off as knowing it all, doesn’t seem too concerned about tone. She said tone would be an issue only for a defense attorney.

“Then you haven’t been watching your own network, because on your network I’ve seen prosecutor after prosecutor talking about this exact same point,” Abrams said of HLN.

“I don’t care,” Grace said. “I’m watching the trial, and still to this point, she has not been cracked.”

Abrams predicted that Arias won’t crack and there won’t be a Perry Mason moment.
